The Biblical Redemption of the Land: From Abraham to Modern Israel

From the promise made to Abraham to the present day, the land occupies a central place in the biblical narrative. It is a gift, a heritage, and a sign of faithfulness. When God calls Abraham to leave his country for a land He will show him, He does not merely promise numerous descendants: He promises a land. This double promise — a people and a land — forms the bedrock of the biblical covenant.

Throughout the Old Testament, the land of Israel is presented as a sacred gift. It does not belong to the people but to God, who entrusts it to Israel as a pledge. This is why the biblical Jubilee, from which our association takes its name, provides that land return to its original owners every fifty years: to remind us that the land belongs to God and that humans are merely its stewards.

The history of this land is marked by cycles of possession, loss, and restoration. The Israelites conquered the land under Joshua, lost it during the Babylonian exile, regained it upon return from exile, lost it again with the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD and the dispersion of the Jewish people throughout the world. For nearly two thousand years, the land awaited the return of its people.

The return of the Jewish people to their land in the 20th century is an event without precedent in human history. No other people has preserved its identity and bond with a land for two millennia of exile, only to return. For Christians who read the Bible attentively, this event resonates with Ezekiel's prophecies describing dry bones coming together and returning to life, symbolizing Israel's return to its land.

Understanding this continuity sheds light on Jubilee's commitment: serving the Holy Land means being part of a long chain of transmission. We are not simply another charitable association: we participate in a narrative that began with Abraham and continues today. Every action, every support, every product sold is a link in this chain.

The land of Israel is not a territory like any other. It is the stage of divine revelation, the place where the Word became flesh. Jesus Christ walked on this land, taught in its synagogues, prayed on its hills. By supporting this land, we honor not only the heritage of the Old Covenant but also the roots of the New.

Our scrolls, handwritten in Jerusalem, carry this memory. Every verse inscribed on parchment is a fragment of the Word of God, anchored in the land where it was spoken. Our wines, from the vines of Galilee, are the fruit of a land that witnessed Jesus's miracles at Cana, where water was turned into wine, a symbol of the new and eternal covenant.

"The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it" (Psalm 24:1). By supporting Jubilee, you participate in the work of redeeming this land, helping those who make it fruitful and who testify, through their presence and work, that God's promises are eternal.
